Welcome to the SPIRITS of St. Petersburg team's latest endevour in exploring the supernatural world. As paranormal research becomes more in demand, we wanted something fresh to bring to our readers. So, starting October 2006, the SPIRITS of St. Petersburg group is pleased to present "The Urban Legends of Florida" page, featuring stories from the Greater Tampa Bay area.
Anyone who does ghost hunting knows that an effective investigator must have a working knowledge of local urban lore. The SPIRITS members have begun researching these legends from around the Greater Tampa Bay area. Because you, the community, are the ones who know and hear these legends, we will put out calls for specific legends in our area on this site. You are welcome to send us any stories, variations of stories, or interactions to these various friend of a friend (FOAF) pieces to post to the page.
The format for each urban legend page will feature the legend as researched by SPIRITS members. Following this will be entries from the community. The SPIRITS team will perform a standard ghost investigation in the area featured in the most popular version of the legend, followed by any research we can find supporting or debunking the story. The conclusion of each page features the opinions of various SPIRITS members as to the validity of the piece. We also hope to provide a bibliography of reliable resources with this site.
